About Me

Greetings!

I am Rachel Field, a Minneapolis transplant from all over the Midwest. Born and raised in Chicago, I have a great appreciation for the arts, literature, and fine dining and cultural cuisine. I then spent almost a decade in central, and quite rural Iowa where I developed an appreciation for the more simplistic lifestyle, farm-to-fork mentality, and the time I had to get creative in the kitchen. I then found myself with a burst of energy and determination to go out on a whim and move to a new city with new faces, places, and way of life. Though still in the Midwest, it is quite different from both Chicago and Iowa, though it does encompass a lot of what I love about both of those places. It's safe to assume no matter where I go, I'll always have a deep appreciation for the Midwest and all it has to offer.

I started my culinary journey in high school, where my passion for cooking and creating really took over. I spent my free time traveling to upstate New York to visit an Italian friend whose mother was a sensational cook. Not that mine wasn't, but everything was made from scratch: pasta, meat dishes and five course meals like I'd never experienced. As soon as I moved to Iowa, the appreciation for all of the curries, moles, and real bolognes that were in plethora in Chicago, had never been stronger. Chain restaurants surrounded me, and I was forced to find my way to healthy eating in my own kitchen. I started attending farmer's markets in addition to little unique, ethnic, or organic grocery stores and started to observe all of the gorgeous produce and fresh meats that were hiding in town. My kitchen became my creative outlet, and it has spiraled to a complete obsession today.

Most social media pages are used to share stories of friends, family, outfits of the day and night... mine, however, is food that I've created. Not one who is used to following recipes, I've started being asked by others how to recreate these dishes. I knew I had to start documenting, which lead me to this blog.

I should also mention that many of my recipes are Paleo, or at the very least gluten free. The outdoor, natural and organic lifestyle in Minneapolis has gobbled me up in every way, and I am completely in love with the city, my surroundings and my little humble kitchen for which I pour my heart and soul into. Thanks for joining me on this journey of cooking and creative! Enjoy and eat well.
